Painite - Priceless
This beautiful, deep red borate mineral was discovered in Myanmar during the 1950’s by Arthur C. D. Pain, hence the name Painite. Since then, a few thousand specimens have been discovered.
There are only two known faceted gemstones in existence, making it the rarest gemstone in fine jewelry making.
Pink Diamond - $600,000 per Carat
Diamonds are a rare gemstone, but the fancy pink variety is substantially more difficult to find and is therefore much more valuable. Unlike other fancy diamonds like yellow and chocolate, the source of this lovely gemstone's tone is hotly debated in scientific circles.
Pink diamonds have tripled in price over the past decade and the most famous specimen known, the Pink Star diamond is worth an incredible $83 million dollars.
Musgravite – $35,000 per Carat
Musgravite is a rare lilac to gray toned oxide mineral found in Australia. It was discovered in 1967 and at the time there was only eight stones known in the world.
In recent years, a scattering of small Musgravites have been found in Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Greenland and Madagascar, but it is still one of the most rare gemstones on Earth.
Alexandrite - $12,000 per Carat
This beautiful blue and purple hued gemstone got its name because it was a cherished treasure of that Russian Tsar Alexander II. Originally discovered in Russia's Ural Mountains in the 1830s, it's now found in Sri Lanka, East Africa and Brazil, but fine material is exceptionally rare and valuable.
Depending on the light source, a single stone can appear in a range of tones from a ruby like magenta to a rich blue or emerald green.
Red Beryl - $10,000 per Carat
Red Beryl gets its distinct bright pink coloring because of the large amount of manganese. They have only been found in one area of the world, in a mineral mine in Beaver County, Utah.
This rare cousin of the green Emerald can only be created when there is enough beryllium present for the manganese, silicon and aluminum to crystalize into the final Red Beryl form.
